Edward Everett Mayer (Teddy)
|
Teddy Mayer, as a giant of the motor racing world (including both Formula One and IndyCar). Born in Pennsylvania USA he later re-located to England where he was instrumental in the creation of the McLaren Formula One team (he managed the team following Bruce McLaren's death in 1970). During the 1970's the team enjoyed considerable success with two of its top drivers taking the world championship title (James Hunt and Emerson Fittipaldi). Shorly after the tie-up with Marlboro and Ron Dennis' Project 4 team, Teddy departed from McLaren. He later worked with the Haas Lola team and the Penske CART racing team. He died in Woking, England in January 2009 aged 73 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
