24-year-old Flt Lt Andy Marsh (or FOAM as he was known - from "F"lying "O"fficer "A"ndy "M"arsh) was an experienced pilot from Penarth, in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales. He had recently been promoted and was shortly to embark upon fast jet training in RAF Valley. He had a great love of the RAF and dedicated his time to it - one of the activities he undertook was to take young Air Cadets on flying experiences to give them a taste of being airborne. It was on the morning of Wed 11-Feb-09 when two Grob trainer aircraft took off from RAF St. Athan in the Vale of Glamorgan - one piloted by Andrew and the other piloted by Hylton Price. Each aircraft was carrying a young teenage cadet from Pontypridd ATC (Katie-Jo Davies and Nikkita Walters). About 1/2 hour into the flight, the two planes collided and crashed to the ground at the Kenfig Pool Nature Reserve near North Cornelly (approx 20 mies from St. Athan). Sadly both pilots and the two young cadets all lost their lives. Andy had graduated from Cardiff University with a Law degree and was a keen sportsman.
