14 year old Nathan Clark Griffiths drowned in a Thailand water park on 10-July-09 after he lifted a vent cover at the bottom of a swimming pool (it is suspected it was to retrieve his swimming goggles) - he was subsequently sucked into the underwater pumping system. The tragedy struck at a Pattaya resort water park, 85 miles east of Bangkok, where Nathan was staying with his father Jimmy, brother Rhys, Thai stepmother Jintana and stepbrother Kevin. IOM Today reported that the "Former Ramsey Grammar and St Ninian's High school pupil Nathan, who had been attending an international school in Pattaya for the past year, had been due to return to the Isle of Man this week for the summer holidays" where he was due to join his mother Marion Griffiths, 40 and his 10-year-old sister Naomi who live in Sulby, Douglas in the Isle of Man.
