Donald Crawford McCoy (Papa Don)
|
Donald McCoy grew up in Pasadena. After serving two years in the Navy he moved to Newport Beach (Orange County), before finally settling in Marin County. It was here (at the Sausalito heliport marina) that he developed his famous houseboat - it was said that was where Otis Redding wrote "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay". Donald ran the hippie commune in Marin County - whose members referred to themselves as "the Chosen Family" - and he was known as 'Papa Don'. He died
on 11-Oct-2004 of a heart attack at his home in San Rafael. He was aged 72.
