John Cecil

35 year old Colour Sergeant John Cecil was from Plymouth in Devon where he was attached to 3 Commando Brigade (although he was born in Newcastle). He was a British soldier serving with the Royal Marines (UK Landing Force Command Support Group) on operations in the Iraq conflict. He was one of the eight UK service personnel killed when US Sea Knight helicopter crashed in Kuwait, south of the Iraq border. A UK inquest conducted later found that the crash was caused by a mechanical failure
