John Leonard King (Baron King of Wartnaby)
|
Lord King was the businessman who was credited with transforming the fortunes of British Airways following its privatisation by the Thatcher government. He had already been knighted for his services to industry when he joined BA in 1981. He re-structured the business, offloading unprofitable routes, upgrading the fleet, and maximising the potential for having a fleet of Concordes. He stepped down in 1993 but remained a BA president emiritus. He was made a life peer (Baron King of Wartnaby). He died in London on 12-July-05 aged 87.
